Oceânico attracts rising stars

February 20, 2013

Oceânico Golf continues its commitment to the growth of the game following the announcement of the dates for the fifth consecutive Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship (OWKG). Capturing the imagination of the world's future stars, the event attracts aspiring golfers from as far afield as Asia who assemble to compete around two of its championship courses; Oceânico Faldo Course and Oceânico O'Connor Jnr. at the Amendoeira Golf Resort.

Taking place from 22nd - 26th July, the championship makes up a series of events on the Oceânico 2013 calendar, including the European Tour's Portugal Masters, and demonstrates the group's dedication to supporting golf at all levels of the game. With the backing of the Portuguese Golf Federation and a number of leading European golf associations, the OWKG plays a significant role in developing grass roots golf and provides a high standard of competition for the next generation of golfing superstars.

Oceânico Golf's CEO, Chris Stilwell commented; "Oceânico has developed a reputation as one of the most complete family-friendly resorts and there is no better way for us to demonstrate this than with the fifth successive Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship. This unique championship welcomes the whole family to experience the first-class accommodation and range of facilities available at our revered Amendoeira Golf Resort. Sign-ups thus far have been extremely encouraging and include a number of returning competitors and families so I strongly advise those interested to sign up soon to avoid disappointment."

OWKG invites juniors between seven and eighteen years of age to compete within their relevant categories determined by age and gender in what is becoming one of the most comprehensive championships on the junior golfing calendar. Children aged ten years and over will compete over 18 holes on each of the three competition days, while children under ten will play 9 holes. Girls and boys with the lowest three scores compared to par in each category will be awarded prizes.

Accommodation is available on site at Amendoeira Golf Resort at special tournament rates. The resort offers spacious two-bedroom apartments for families of four; two bedroom apartments with mezzanines; and luxury villas for larger groups. All apartments boast modern amenities and appliances and are surrounded by landscape gardens and a communal pool. Additional to the two 18 hole golf courses, visitors can take advantage of the state of the art practice facilities at the Amendoeira Golf Academy & Fitting Suite, including a driving range, putting green and the 9 hole, par 3, floodlit course, Oceânico Academy.

The Oceânico Faldo Course bears all the hallmarks of the six-time Major Champion and provides a stern, but fair test of golf, whilst the Oceânico O'Connor Jnr. course demands accuracy off the tee to avoid the numerous water hazards. The magnificent clubhouse features a restaurant, lounge and bar, a spike bar and pro shop. Amendoeira Golf Resort also offers a wealth of sporting facilities at the Amendoeira Sports Club: two five-a-side Astroturf football pitches, six tennis courts, beach volleyball/football, a gymnasium, shop and bar.
