Tiger Woods becomes World No. 1 for 11th time

March 25, 2013

Tiger Woods has returned to World Number One with victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard by two strokes over Justin Rose, who moves up to a career best of World Number Three. In winning at Bay Hill for an eighth time Woods matches Sam Snead's PGA TOUR record for the most wins at a single event. He also equals Greg Norman's record of reaching the top spot 11 times in his career.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat held off a string of start names to capture his first European Tour title at the Maybank Malaysian Open. One ahead of former Masters Tournament winner Charl Schwartzel at the start of the day, the 23 year old Thai golfer was joined by, amongst others, three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington and Ryder cup star Edoardo Molinari on a fascinating final day.

Jaco Van Zyl won his third Sunshine Tour title of the season The Investec Cup. The R5-million bonus pool certainly spiced up the cup, but added to that was the participation of three players from the top 100 in the world. With plenty of ranking points on offer, it was no holds barred as players battled their way towards the cup.

Edward Loar kept the field at arm’s length during Sunday’s wind-swept final round of the Chitiamacha Louisiana Open and earned his second career title on the Web.com Tour. Loar held a one-stroke lead after 54 holes at the Le Triomphe Country Club and needed only a 2-under par 69 to finish at 17-under 267 to beat Morgan Hoffmann (69) by two strokes and two-time champion Brett Wetterich (65) by three.

Colombian Manuel Villegas showed his mettle at the end of the TransAmerican Power Products CRV Open to win his first title on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. The 28-year-old was trailing by two strokes with four holes left to play, but holed out for eagle at the par-5 15th hole and closed with a birdie at the par-4 18th hole to shoot 67 and defeat Mexican José Jesús Rodríguez by one.
