PGA Catalunya Resort "like a second home" to Q- School champion Carlos del Moral

November 20, 2013

PGA Catalunya Resort, Barcelona, host of European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage, feels like 'home' to 2013 champion, Carlos del Moral.

The 28-year-old completed the 108-hole final stage in 26-under-par, including four rounds of the more challenging Stadium Course - recently ranked Spain's number one golf course by  Golf World  magazine* - winning by an impressive five shots.

"The first time I came here, I felt the golf course really suited me," said del Moral. "The greens are pure, so when the putter's hot you can shoot any number."

"They always take such good care of me here, everybody is so supportive. I guess it's because I play well here. It feels like a second home."

Del Moral topped a field of 156 tour professionals, only 27 of which earned coveted playing privileges on The European Tour.

PGA Catalunya Resort is a European Tour Destination and was recently named 'Best Golf Development in Europe'**.

Mike Stewart, European Tour Qualifying School Director, said: "The facilities at PGA Catalunya, including the two courses, exceptional practice areas, plus the club house and on-site hotel, have once again, proved to be the ideal location for hosting this event.

"The two superb golf courses are in terrific condition and are maintained to the highest standards. There is a fantastic team effort from both The European Tour and PGA Catalunya and the two work together seamlessly.

"We always enjoy returning here, and we are made to feel very much at home."

Julio Delgado, CEO of PGA Catalunya Resort, said: "The Qualifying School Final is the most important week of the year for the golfers taking part, and we take great pride in ensuring the course and facilities are set-up precisely to The European Tour's exacting requirements."

PGA Catalunya Resort has hosted The European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage since 2008 and has been selected to host it once again in 2014.

Del Moral has earned his European Tour Card at PGA Catalunya Resort four times in the past six years and, while keen to avoid the pressure of Qualifying School, would like to return during the regular playing calendar.

"I hope I can play in a European Tour event here. I don't know when it will happen, but that would be special."
