Nikon's Richard Wallis shoots 59

June 12, 2013

Nikon Ambassador Richard Wallis has claimed another title to add to his collection of over 100 professional victories since turning pro, after winning the Kerry London Championship on the 888poker.com PGA EuroPro Tour.

Wallis is a Nikon COOLSHOT ambassador and has used Nikon lasers in his weekly tournament preparations since 2010.

A final round 65, just one shot off the course record, on the New Course at Burhill Golf Club, saw Wallis see off his closest competitor by 7 strokes, winning his first event on the 888poker.com EuroPro Tour in only his second start. Earlier this year Wallis won the Titleist PGA Playoffs for the second year in a row, having already won the PGA South Region Order of Merit for the third successive season previously.

Wallis wasn't finished there however, shooting a flawless round of 59 to win the Virgin Atlantic PGA Southern Open Championship Pro-AM at the, par 73, Drift GC, Surrey. With no player on any professional tour ever shooting a round of 59 on a par 73, it is believed Wallis has now set a world record, with the Guiness book of Records now looking into it.

After completing his round in 14-under-par, beating the field by six shots, Wallis said: " I'm absolutely over the moon to shoot this score. I've shot low scores before, but never in an official PGA event like this. Usually the game's great but the putting's not, or vice versa, but today everything really clicked. The course was in great nick and on the greens you felt any putt could go in."

He added: "The accuracy of Nikon's lasers over the last few years have played a huge role in my weekly preparations and enabling me to have the confidence to execute the shots out on the course."

The Drift GC is planning to honour Wallis with a memorial plaque to remember his flawless round of 59.
