Richmond Park Golf Course to host the 2013 PGA Surrey Open Championship

June 28, 2013

UK golf course operator Glendale Golf is proud to announce that one of the PGA's most prestigious events is coming to London's Richmond Park Golf Course.  The three day event takes place 22-24 July and consists of a Pro-Am and 36-hole stroke play tournament.  The prize fund for professionals is £14,000 making it a major event on the Virgin Atlantic PGA Order of Merit.

Being selected as host venue is an important landmark for the 36-hole golf course, with the recent opening of a brand new £2.5m clubhouse and a major course improvements programme well underway.

Jon Dummett, Head of Glendale Golf explains: "We're delighted to be chosen to host such a high profile PGA event, which past champions include Warren Humphries and Neil Coles MBE.  The significant improvements we're making to the Duke's and Prince's courses, along with the new clubhouse facilities, means Richmond Park Golf Course is now in a position to host events of this scale."

The tournament will be held over the par-70 Duke's Course, which was opened in 1925 by the Duke of York, two years after the Prince's Course.  At the time the courses were heralded as a place where 'artisans and royalty are equally welcome', reflected in the very modest £3 annual membership!

Jon Dummett adds: "The PGA Surrey Open Championship was first played in 1926 and I'm thrilled that nine decades later the event is coming to Richmond Park Golf Course for the first time.  There's a great history behind the tournament and Richmond Park, and the event is a great way to mark the course's 90 th anniversary year."

Entry into the Pro-Am is £240 per team of three and entry forms can be requested by emailing sam.smith@pga.org.uk .  For more information about Richmond Park Golf Course visit www.glendalegolf.co.uk
