UK’s youngest PGA head golf professional joins Rockliffe Hall

February 19, 2013

A top PGA professional has joined Rockliffe Hall Golf Club as it continues to strengthen its team ahead of a busy year of high profile tournaments.

Martyn Stubbings, a class AAT professional, has taken up the role of assistant head golf professional working in the golf club and the academy.

As well as coaching an England international, Durham County players and aspiring junior golfers, Martyn himself became the UK's youngest PGA head golf professional at the age of 21 whilst working at Dinsdale Spa Golf Club in County Durham.

The 30-year old was a fully qualified PGA golf professional by the time he was 21- the youngest age at which you can obtain the qualification- and, as well as working at Dinsdale for almost a decade, also ran his own pro shop.

Martyn, from Eaglescliffe, Stockton-on-Tees, will be responsible for coaching and development within Rockliffe Hall's golf club as well as managing a variety of events and competitions.

In addition to his career, Martyn has also played in a range of professional competitions, winning various pro-am tournaments including the Cleveland/Srixon Invitational at Turnberry in Scotland last year.

Martyn said: "Joining Rockliffe Hall's prestigious golf club is a great career move as it is very well known and respected. I'm really looking forward to the tournaments we have in the pipeline and working with a passionate team, club members and a range of players of all ages and abilities."

Rockliffe Hall's world-class golf course is recognised as one of the best in the UK and was strategically designed by top golf architect, Marc Westonborg from Hawtrees. Thanks to its engineering and construction, the course remains open all year round and benefits from no winter greens.

As well as hosting a number of high profile tournaments- such as the Trilby Tour and the Northern Golf Masters- and hundreds of corporate and charity events, Rockliffe Hall is also home to a highly-regarded golf academy, offering coaching from respected PGA golf professionals.

Head PGA professional at Rockliffe Hall, Jon Stacey, added: "Martyn brings with him a wealth of experience and is a well-known face amongst golfers. He has some very impressive achievements and also some great ideas to take our golf club forward as we move into a busy period with some really interesting plans."
