The Track voted one of the world’s best 9-hole golf courses

June 17, 2013

Troon, the leader in upscale golf course management and development, has added to the long list of accolades achieved by its global portfolio of properties, following the recent inclusion of The Track, Meydan Golf within Golf Digest's top 9 nine-hole golf courses in the World outside of the United States. The magnificent Dubai layout more than lived up to its glowing reputation, ranking sixth in the inaugural poll conducted by the iconic golf publication on courses with fewer than 18 holes and playable within two hours.

"The Track, Meydan Golf has demonstrated a fresh new approach to catering to the modern demands of golfers in the Middle East, so naturally this award is richly deserved and testament to the hard work of all parties involved in the development of this all-encompassing facility," commented Bruce Glasco, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, International Operations, Troon. "To be recognised by the panel of Golf Digest, which is widely considered the industry's most respected rankings authority, is a real honour and demonstrates the team's passion to deliver first-class service."

The inaugural Golf Digest course ranking category was decided by panellists from the magazine's many international versions. The challenging Peter Harradine designed course drew glowing praise for its variety of different holes, including intriguing par threes, drivable par fours and lengthy par fives along with competitive rates. Open till 11pm, the innovative 9-hole course is maintained in pristine Troon standard conditioning throughout the year and stretches over 3,600 yards from the back tees. Set alongside the Meydan Racecourse and The Meydan Hotel, the layout works its way between a series of natural lakes and has become an instant hit with visiting golfers since its opening.

A Golf Digest representative noted, "Having only been opened a year, The Track, Meydan Golf has quickly proved a fun, challenging course with superb facilities, an innovative tee-time booking system and great views of the downtown skyline."

The Meydan Racecourse, which is home to thoroughbred racing, the world's richest day in racing - the Dubai World Cup is also blessed with a Tennis Academy, The Meydan IMAX Theatre and Meydan Hotel, making Meydan one of Dubai's most cherished sporting and leisure destinations. The Track, Meydan Golf recognises modern society's need and desire for a quicker form of golf and as such has been positioned as a unique model, different to the golf attractions currently available in the UAE.

The Track, Meydan Golf's Marketing Manager, James Leeman added, "We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised internationally in such a prestigious list. We urge everyone that has not been to The Track to come and give us a go. We operate an open pay-to-play fee structure rather than costly membership fees, welcoming golfers of all levels. Our whole philosophy is to offer something new to the market, making golf easily accessible and we are succeeding in doing that."

Just a ten minute drive from the Downtown Burj Dubai area and a 20 minute drive from most areas of Dubai (including the International Airport), The Track, Meydan Golf caters to every type of golfer. Included in the facilities is a floodlit driving range and Meydan Academy by Troon® aimed at stimulating new golfers and for the more experienced wishing to hone their skills.

A fully equipped clubhouse complete what is without doubt one of the finest new additions to golf in the Middle East. The clubhouse features a boutique golf shop, full locker room facilities, and multiple dining options including a family-friendly restaurant and a lively sports bar to complement a round of golf.
