18-year-old sets course record to be crowned Thornbury Golf Centre’s Ladies Club Champion

June 28, 2013

A record-breaking final round in Thornbury Golf Centre's Ladies Club Championship has handed victory to 18-year-old, Emma Barter.

Emma's score of 74 - a new ladies course record at the public pay-and-play centre - saw her win the 36-hole competition by six shots from 2012's Ladies Club Champion, Jill Sewley.

With prizes available for both handicap and gross scores, the ladies competed over the scenic Marlwood Course, which offers beautiful panoramic views over the rolling countryside, across the Severn Estuary to Wales and the distant Cotswold Hills.

The Ladies Club Championship nett prize at Thornbury part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - was won by Carol Weeks, who shot one-under her handicap of 13 to take the top spot from runner-up Suzy Unwin.

Richard Dakin, Thornbury Golf Centre General Manager, said: "Emma has only recently turned 18 and therefore graduated to the ladies section. Her victory and new ladies course record is testament to our thriving junior section, which is so well supported by Thornbury professional, Jason Fallon.

"It is common for youngsters, especially girls, to drop out of sports participation in their teens, so it is very encouraging to see Emma not only playing, but winning too. We will watch her continued development with interest."
