Scottish Duo on top of the World at The Carrick on Loch Lomond

May 23, 2013

The Carrick on Loch Lomond played host to the Final of the prestigious World Corporate Golf Challenge, which saw some of the world's most powerful business leaders do battle on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Following two days of closely fought competition on the Doug Carrick designed layout, the Scottish pairing of Chris Aitken and William Macmillan, representing Rolls Royce PLC, came out victorious after amassing 105 points in the combined stableford competition. The pair who qualified as winners of the Scottish qualifying event, fought off stern competition from the global field that had assembled at the leading 5-star Scottish resort.

The duo entered the final round nine points off the pace, but battled through challenging Scottish conditions to secure a second round of 52 points and claim an impressive three stroke victory. The Guatemalan father and son pairing representing Bantrab, stormed into an early lead on day one, after an outstanding tally of 62 points, however their success was short lived as they stumbled to a final round of 40 points to finish in second place. The team representing the New Zealand Post finished a further point behind in third.

"The event was an outstanding success for everyone involved and once again proved that the resort is up there with the very best on the world stage," stated Ross Whitfield, General Manager at The Carrick on Loch Lomond. "From speaking to the competitors throughout the week, they all thoroughly enjoyed the legendary Scottish hospitality. We are obviously delighted for the home nation team, who came out on top here at The Carrick, especially with the Ryder Cup coming to these shores next year."

The World Final was also attended by a number of World Corporate Golf Challenge Ambassadors who provided support and entertainment for all involved. Ryder Cup legends Tony Jacklin and Ronan Rafferty co-hosted the event and renowned trick-shot artist Jeremy Dale kept the players entertained with one of his unique master classes. Event Director, Harry Lloyd commented on the stunning success of the event, "The Carrick on Loch Lomond is one of Scotland's most impressive luxury golf resorts, and provided the perfect setting for this year's World Final. The competitors were blown away by the beautiful setting and the first class hospitality that was provided throughout the duration of their stay."

The acclaimed Carrick on Loch Lomond golf course provided a stern test for all those competing and was in fine condition following a number of investments over the winter months. The picturesque layout set across dramatic landscape has strong credentials when it comes to holding leading golf tournaments, having previously hosted the Ladies Scottish Open and the PGA Cup matches between GB&I and the USA. Competitors at the World Final were also treated to the renowned De Vere hospitality which is on offer at the stunning 5-star Cameron House resort, and features the finest accommodation, dining experiences, and leisure facilities for all guests
