Golf’s next generation shines at Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship

July 31, 2013

Oceânico Golf is celebrating the successful conclusion of the 2013 Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship which attracted rising stars of golf to the stunning Amendoeira Golf Resort from 22nd - 26th July. A record number of youngsters from Portugal and as far afield as Peru travelled with their families to compete around the championship courses designed by Ryder Cup legends Sir Nick Faldo and Christy O'Connor Jnr. and enjoy the world-class facilities at the family-friendly resort.

Juniors between ten and seventeen years of age competed over 18 holes on each of the three competition days, while children under ten played 9 holes. Creating the feel of a professional 'Tour' event, the tournament counted each player's gross score towards their Championship total. Prizes, awarded to the first three competitors in each age category, were given out by Portugal's European Tour star and Oceânico's brand ambassador Ricardo Santos. The results are as follows:

"Congratulations go to all our winners and we hope all the families enjoyed what has been a fun week of competitive golf."

The popularity of the tournament was further highlighted by the numerous families who were in attendance to show their support to their siblings and experience the first-class accommodation and wide range of leisure facilities available at the luxurious Amendoeira resort.

Oceânico brand ambassador, Ricardo Santos said: "The Oceânico World Kids Golf championship is an outstanding example of the company's commitment to the development of the game at all levels. The experience of a professional-style tournament in a fun and competitive environment is unique to this event."

The Oceânico Faldo course bears all the hallmarks of the six-time Major Champion and provides a stern, but fair test of golf, whilst the Oceânico O'Connor Jnr course demands accuracy off the tee to avoid the numerous water hazards. The magnificent clubhouse features a restaurant, lounge and bar, a spike bar and pro shop. Amendoeira also offers a wealth of sporting facilities at the Amendoeira Sports Club: two five-a-side Astroturf football pitches, six tennis courts, beach volleyball/football, a gymnasium, shop and bar.
