Zavidovo PGA National Russia establishes itself as Learning Centre

July 25, 2013

Zavidovo PGA National Russia is fast developing a name as being a centre for training and developing golf excellence amongst Russian Golf professionals.  Working closely with the PGA of Great Britain & Ireland and the PGAs of Europe, the club has already successfully hosted two leading seminars that have attracted renowned industry lecturers.

Alexander Yarunin, Zavidovo PGA National Club President, a long-time advocate of the PGA education program, was the first to congratulate the attendee's of the first IPE - Initial Professional Education program.  "I am delighted that our young professionals understand the need to develop their careers by learning from the best, it assures me that the game of golf will grow with the very best knowledge and support available."

Visiting lecturer, PGA Professional Martin Westphal, was quick to comment on the success of the first stage "The commitment shown by the professionals attending this first week of training, shows a great start for the RPGA. These students are currently learning the very best of what the PGA has to offer and will become leaders in the Russian golf industry in the coming years'.  For the PGA to have a branded facility in Russia allows us to host educational programs such as the IPE course with ease. The facilities at Zavidovo are luxurious and have everything we need to develop PGA Professionals of the future.  Our three day seminar is very much seen as the start of the journey, which is followed up with weekly web based seminars before the group reconvene at Zavidovo in August for the IPE stage 2."

Informing professionals on the mechanics of the Rules of Golf was Simon Higginbottom, himself Head of Tournaments for the PGA and a Ryder Cup Referee.  Higginbottom, who was on an official visit to see the PGA Branded property, took a day out to spend with Russian based professionals to discuss how the Rules of Golf are written and help RPGA members understand how the Rules work in practice. "It was good to meet the RPGA members and see their enthusiasm for the Rules of Golf. In a developing golf market such as Russia, the future of the game relies so much on PGA Professionals to teach the Rules, etiquette and spirit of the game, to both new and existing golfers - all these core principles are outlined in the Rules of Golf booklet". "I hope to visit again in the future as part of the PGA's ongoing education plans when our Rules Education will begin to focus on advanced rules and refereeing".

Zavidovo PGA National
Since its opening in September 2013 Zavidovo PGA National has fast gained a reputation within the Russia golfing fraternity for the quality and condition of the golf course. The club's relationship with the Professional Golfers' Association of Great Britain and Ireland is a unique one for Russia. It is the one and only club in Russia carrying the prestigious PGA title and in doing so joins an exclusive band of PGA National facilities around the World, from the PGA National at the Belfry in England, to the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles in Scotland (the venue of the 2014 Ryder Cup). The facility is managed by St. Andrews based Braemar Golf and is open to non-members. It is situated 90KM from Moscow just off the Moscow to St Petersburg highway.
