Rory McIlroy favourite for BMW Championship

September 4, 2014

It was squeaky bum time for some of the world's top golfers on Tuesday, as they awaited the announcement of the Ryder Cup Captain's picks.  The golfing world now turns to the BMW Championship in Colorado, where Paddy Power have been pricing up who will take the next event in the Fed Ex Cup series.

Rory heads the field once again as the 9/2 hot favourite .  Going by Rory's recent form he might be disappointed not to have won in the last two tournaments, but the big hitting Irishman has won this tournament before and will have his sights set on yet another victory.

On Rory's coat-tails are the regular group of big names, Adam Scott is 12/1, Jason Day is 16/1 and Rickie Fowler at 20/1 .  While others might look at defending champion Zach Johnson at 40/1 , or last week's runner-up Russell Henley a very tasty 100-1 .

Chris Kirk may feel aggrieved not to have been a wildcard pick for the Ryder Cup after his heroic win at the Deutsche Bank championship last week but he is 50/1 to go for back to back wins and prove to Watson he made a bad decision leaving him out.

Tom Watson finalised his team on late on Tuesday evening, choosing 2 major winners in Keegan Bradley and Webb Simpson, along with top 20 player Hunter Mahan.  They will join the European wildcard trio of Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Stephen Gallacher.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: "Wozniacki in the semis of the US Open and Rory back winning tournaments for fun, it's like we are back in 2011 before the pair met."
