Trick-Shot ace David Edwards returning to National Bank of Oman Golf Classic

August 27, 2014

David Edwards, arguably the most entertaining trick-shot showmen in golf, will once again be on hand to encourage spectators - particularly youngsters - to take up the sport at this year's National Bank of Oman Golf Classic.

Edwards will be returning to the Challenge Tour event at Almouj Golf The Wave, Muscat, Oman, on Thursday, October 30-Sunday, November 2 after his superbly entertaining performances at the inaugural event last October caught the imagination of everyone who saw his show from dignitaries to schoolchildren.

"I've performed my trick-shot shows all over the world and I had a particularly wonderful time with the crowd last year in Oman," says Edwards, who used to earn his living as a PGA club professional back in the UK. "I may have continued to be a PGA professional if I'd been able to master the fine art of putting. Many people who watched the show didn't know a great deal about golf, which made it all the more rewarding for me to show them the ropes.

"It's always good to get feedback from your audience. I get a real buzz out of entertaining people and I love to draw the youngsters into the show and introduce them to the game from a different, enjoyable sort of angle.

"The number of schoolchildren who joined in the show last year created a lot of fun for all of us and I'd be surprised if some of these youngsters don't take up the game. All they need to do is go and see the PGA professional at their local golf club and take it from there.

"There would be many more people playing golf if we could only break down the barriers of people who feel self-conscious about taking up the game. It's a daunting experience for newcomers coming into golf and I think we all have a duty to show that golf is fun and a game to be enjoyed.

"I love doing impersonations of the big name players and encouraging the youngsters to have a go and share in the fun and games."

Edwards has taken his show to more than 50 different countries around the world and is constantly flying to new destinations. So far this year he has already performed for the first time in India, Thailand and Cambodia.

He is hugely popular in Asia and in 2013 he made no fewer than seven trips to China alone as part of a hectic schedule that saw him fly more than 125,000 miles and help raise over £100,000 for charity, both home and abroad.

His trip to Oman is all part of a hectic globe-trotting schedule for the man dubbed by top coach Pete Cowen as 'the finest trick-shot showman around'.
