De Vere Slaley Hall lays foundations for golf's next generation

October 17, 2014

As one of the leading resorts within the De Vere Golf portfolio, Slaley Hall in Northumberland has taken the lead with the brand's mission to grow the game across all levels by introducing a free junior membership scheme to develop the game amongst future generations.

All members of the Slaley Country Club will receive a complimentary junior membership for their children, encouraging them to take advantage of the resort's fantastic golf courses and practice facilities, as well as the team of highly-skilled PGA Professionals.

Steven Fawcitt joined Slaley Hall as the Head Teaching Professional earlier in the year, with the aim of specifically developing the junior and ladies' sections at the resort, and has quickly started to build its reputation as a golfing hub for the North East.

Having recently been awarded TripAdvisor's ‘Certificate of Excellence', the Northumberland resort caters for every golfer's needs; from the state-of-the-art facilities available at the floodlit TaylorMade Golf Academy, to the dedicated short game areas, and highly acclaimed golf courses which have hosted a wealth of European Tour events over the years.

“We have made incredible strides with our junior section over the past eight months,” commented Fawcitt. “When I started at the resort, we only worked with a limited number of engaged juniors, however this has really developed to the stage where we now have a host of sessions with multiple age groups.

“To be able to offer free junior membership for Slaley Country Club members is fantastic and can only help improve the future for the resort. We hope that it will encourage parents to bring their children along for coaching, especially over the off-season, when I will be running a series of winter academies for all golfers to get their games into shape for the upcoming season.”

Keith Pickard, De Vere Group Director of Golf commented: “At De Vere Golf, we are always looking to help develop the game at each of our resorts, and the outstanding work of the team at Slaley Hall combined with this new junior membership offer can only help to further enhance our reputation for this.

“To be able to make the exceptional facilities at Slaley Hall accessible to even more young people looking to get into golf, is something we are extremely excited about and hope to set the standard for the golf development of future generations.”
