GB Captain scores first ever ace at EDGA Nations Cup

February 3, 2014

The EDGA Nations Cup event took place in November 2013 across a demanding Las Colinas course in Murcia, SE Spain. A total of 17 teams from 9 European counties gathered to compete in the Gross and Stableford tournaments. The French Team won the Gross event and the Spanish took the Stableford prize on home soil.

This in itself was good but the great excitement on day one of the event occurred when GB Captain Richard Saunders holed-in-one on the 7th. Sadly, the ever confident Richard didn't see the ball enter the hole having turned away to return his club to his caddie Peter. However, carrying out his role in full, Pete followed the flight and roll of the ball all the way into the cup...

It was Saunders' first ace and the first in any EDGA tournament. Richard received many congratulations on his achievement. It proved expensive mind, as there were about 65 thirsty EDGA golfers waiting in the Las Colinas clubhouse! Commenting on his feat over a celebratory lager Saunders said "It makes all the hard work with the short game worthwhile - a big thank-you to Karl Arthur and the Titleist Team for making it all possible!"

Richard, also Chairman of BALASA suffers from Phocomelia which is one of many disabilities reflected across this charity's membership.
