Ryder Cup star Phillip Price looking to take the European Father & Son Golf Championship title

July 4, 2014

Phillip Price, who famously and crucially beat Phil Mickelson in the 2002 Ryder Cup singles for Europe to win at The Belfry, is among the entrants who will be playing golf with their sons in this year's European Father & Son Golf Championship.

Phillip's son Edward is a five handicapper and the reigning South Wales Under-13 champion. "To be able to play golf with my son in this event is unique," said Price. "We are travelling to the event with my wife and daughter as well, so we are super excited about competing and trying to win."

The Father & Son Golf Championship, which is now in its seventh year and is broadcast on Sky Sports, is being played at the Valle Este Golf Resort in Almeria, Andalucía, Spain from 27th October to 1st November 2014. Tournament Director Toby Marsden said: "We are honoured to have Phil and his family at this year's championship. It just shows that no matter who you are, playing golf with your son is special. The event is designed to be a week-long fun golf holiday. It's all about the celebration of family and friendship. We try to run it as close to a professional tournament as possible with Sky Sports cameras, announcers, spectators, press, caddies and scoreboards - so for all involved it's an unforgettable experience".

Last year's scratch champions were driving range professional David Mills and his 14-year old son George Mills from Pease Pottage in Sussex. The handicap title was taken by Englishmen Mark and Connor Jenkins from Cornwall. Both teams won in emphatic style in front of the cameras and crowds around the 18 th green. Mark Jenkins summed up his week: "Unbelievable, we came here to have a great time but to win was an unexpected bonus. We have had a truly fantastic time and a memory that Connor and I will never forget. We can't wait to come back and try and defend our title."

The tournament is open to any father and son team, professional or amateur, with no age limit and a maximum handicap of 24. It's designed to be a fun week-long golf holiday, particularly targeted at families as it is played in the half-term school holidays.

Over 50 teams from all over the world will come to compete to try and win the title of the best scratch and handicap father and son team in Europe. The winners will win a free return holiday to come back and defend their titles.

To enter a team costs from £599 per person. The price includes five nights accommodation on a half board basis, four rounds of golf, tournament entry, a welcome drink, gala dinner and prizes.
