Follow in the Footsteps of the Stars at the new England’s Golf Coast Pro-am

January 28, 2014

England's Golf Coast is offering amateur golfers an exciting opportunity to team up with their club pro and compete in a 54-hole pro-am to be staged over three of the finest golf courses in England.

The England's Golf Coast Pro-Am is a new stroke play event for teams comprising one PGA professional and their three amateur partners and is to be staged on consecutive days at Royal Birkdale on Monday May 19th, Formby on Tuesday May 20 th and Formby Hall on Wednesday May 2 st, 2014.

It is to be limited to a maximum of 31 teams of four with the successful entrants selected on a first come, first served basis. Entries must be received no later than April 18th , 2014.

The three venues to be used for the inaugural England's Golf Coast Pro-Am will need no introduction to aficionados of the royal and ancient game.

Royal Birkdale was recently voted as the No. 1 golf course in England by a leading consumer golf magazine and has staged nine Open Championships, two Ryder Cups, five Ricoh Women's British Opens, the Senior British Open and a wide assortment of other leading professional and amateur events.

This July the club will host the world's best women golfers for a sixth time during the Ricoh Women's British Open on July 105 th to 13 th .

Formby Golf Club is also well accustomed to hosting major events and is a regular venue for Final Qualifying for the Open Championship. It staged the 2004 Curtis Cup won narrowly by the leading women amateur players from the USA and has also hosted four Amateur Championships most recently in 2009 when Italy's Matteo Manassero signalled his arrival onto the international stage by beating England's Sam Hutsby by 4 & 3 in the final.

Formby also staged last year's English Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship (Brabazon Trophy) won by Walker Cup player Jordon Smith.

Formby Hall Golf Club is the newest of the three venues to be used for the inaugural England's Golf Coast Pro-Am but has already built a deserved reputation as a fine test of golf. It has hosted several events on both the European Challenge Tour and European Senior Tour and was the venue where rising English European Tour star Tommy Fleetwood achieved his breakthrough professional win on the PGA EuroPro Tour.

Professionals will be competing for a first prize of £3,000 out of a total prize fund of £15,000 in the inaugural England's Golf Coast Pro-Am at Royal Birkdale, Formby and Formby Hall. £1,000s of amateur prizes will also be available and meals will be provided for all competitors at each venue. All competitors will receive a gift bag on arrival.

The entry fee for the inaugural 54-hole England's Golf Coast Pro-Am is £1,500 per team of three amateurs and one PGA professional. Entries for the event can be lodged via the PGA's online tournament system at www.pga.info or by downloading and completing an entry form and sending it to the PGA in England and Wales (North) Office at No. 2 Cottage, Bolton Golf Club, Lostock Park, Chorley New Road, Bolton, Lancs BL6 4AJ.
