New World Record set at Silvermere Golf and Leisure

May 13, 2014

On 21st May an Epsom volunteer fundraiser is taking on a 24 hour golf challenge in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Ian Trigg, is hoping to set a new world record by attempting to hit over 20,000 golf balls over 24 hours at the new driving range at Silvermere Golf and Leisure.

The long term fundraiser decided to attempt the challenge following the death of his friend of 40 years, Vince Weller.

Ian said: "It was so hard seeing my best friend beaten by cancer at only 49, that I wanted to do all I could to help fight back. I hope that by pushing myself to achieve something special, that others will take up the challenge to help beat cancer. Training is going well thanks to the amazing support that have received from Silvermere Golf and Leisure" You can follow Ian @Ian_Trigg

Sheona Ranson, Cancer Research UK's local fundraising manager for Surrey, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Ian has decided to attempt such a great challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

"He has being doing lots of preparation and we're sure he's going to have an amazing experience.  We can't thank Ian enough for all his support and want to wish him all the very best on the day."

Sheona added: "Cancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer and continues to do so. However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would not be able to fund our vital research ."
