Record-breaking hole-in-one event

August 27, 2014

Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline, sponsored a 'Hole-in-One' competition at the recent Farmfoods British Par 3 Golf Championships where some of Britain's best golfers showed they were more than up to the challenge - by managing a record-breaking seven across just two days.

Players and crowds were left stunned by the record-breaking achievement which saw two holes-in-one taking place on the event's second day, and an amazing five on the third.

Amongst those displaying their outstanding skills and managing a hole-in-one were the legendary Tommy Horton MBE, and Gary Wolstenholme MBE, all winning return European flights with Flybe for two from Birmingham Airport as their prize.

The event - which drew record crowds in excess of 10,000 visitors - was held at the beautiful Nailcote Hall, just ten minutes from Birmingham Airport where Flybe is the largest scheduled airline* and from where its schedule this year features no less than 13 new routes including those to Reyjkavik, Florence, Oslo, Hamburg, Cologne, Toulouse and Lyon.

Hosted by Major Champion Tony Jacklin CBE, the nine hole British Par 3 Golf Championship event is the leading tournament of its kind in the UK and attracts some of the highest profile golf professionals in the business from across the European Tour and European Senior Tour.

The professional competition was sandwiched between two Celeb-Am competitions which featured well-known names in sport and entertainment including the likes of Len Goodman, Ian Woosnam MBE, Paul Lawrie, Peter Schmeichel MBE and a regular at the competition, actor Bill Roache from Coronation Street.

Flybe Regional Sales Manager, Paul Willoughby, said: "It was great to be part of the event and to represent Flybe in congratulating the hole-in-one winners personally.

"Flybe's journey to becoming Europe's Best Local Airline means that we will continue to play a key role in supporting the communities in which we operate and to supporting their regional economies of which major sporting events such as this play a key role in attracting lots of visitors to the area."

The owner of Nailcote Hall, Rick Cressman, said: " This year's tournament has been the most amazing yet with course records, the best field of players ever, and a record number of holes-in-one!

"And now the seven lucky hole-in-one winners will be able to make their next trips on the European tour courtesy of Flybe."

This summer, Flybe is operating a total of 32 routes to and from Birmingham with a choice of up to 381 return flights a week. One way fares are from £24.99 including taxes and charges.
