Record scores for HSBC at Open

July 22, 2014

Long-term golf sponsor HSBC is celebrating its "biggest ever Open" after a record-breaking week at Hoylake.

Open patron HSBC recorded a 43% increase in visitors to its HSBC Golf Zone compared to Muirfield in 2013 with more than 50,000 people coming through the doors. On Sunday alone over 10,000 people visited the interactive spectator experience which gives fans the chance to try different golf skills.

The overall Open Championship attendance of 202,917 was up by 60,000 compared to 2013 and HSBC Global Head of Sponsorship & Events Giles Morgan said: "The levels of interest we've seen have been phenomenal and way ahead of previous years.

"Everything is up - almost double the numbers in the HSBC Golf Zone, we were busier than ever in our HSBC Premier branch, hospitality was full and our Blindfold Golf YouTube campaign has clocked up over half a million views.

"If this is a barometer of the interest in golf it's got to be positive - two years ago we commissioned "Golf's 2020 Vision", a detailed report on where golf would be at the start of the next decade. The outlook was bright then but a great tournament and a great winner of The Open will surely act as a catalyst to inspiring golf participation in the UK. We also sponsor HSBC Golf Roots, The Golf Foundation's national development programme and that, coupled with Rory acting as a modern day Pied Piper for the sport, can only be good news for golf as we look forward to St Andrews 2015."
