Rory McIlroy favourite for Irish Open

June 19, 2014

The Irish Open takes centre stage this week as a star-studded field descends upon county Cork to play at the Fota Island Venue, fresh from the US Open Rory McIlroy is clear favourite at 9/2 to win with top bookie Paddy Power.

Taking part in the event is a host of home grown talent including major winners McIlroy, McDowell, Clarke and Harrington, as well as many European heavyweights such as Quiros, Manassero and Cabrera Bello.  While defending champion Paul Casey, who is beginning to find his form returns to the Irish showpiece and is 20/1 to retain his title.  Harrington returns to the course where he had consecutive top 10 finishes 10 years ago he is 4/1 with Paddy Power to finish in the top 10 again this week.

Elsewhere, Tiger Woods could be set to make his comeback after an injury plagued season, reports have shown that he is back on the range and swinging the driver, it is odds on of 1/7 that the big man will return to action (not that he's not getting any) at The Open Championship next month, while its 4/1 that he will not show up and disappoint the ladies of Liverpool.
