Open Championship betting

July 16, 2014

With just two days to go until the biggest British golfing event tees off at Hoylake, Paddy Power is placing Justin Rose as favourite to take the Claret Jug at 14/1.

But will the English contingent deliver in sport this summer, well outside of Rose our chances rest with Westwood, Poulter, Casey and Donald.  In the case of Donald and Casey neither have a Major championship under their belts leaving their golfing careers a little unfulfilled and their placement as fair outsiders at 50/1 no surprise .

As for Poulter, he has Ryder Cup success but no Major and at 55/1 he'll be lucky to see this change over the weekend.  Westwood on the other hand has had three top fives in the last five championships which speaks of a player who knows how to play links golf - at 50/1, Westwood offers good value as he's likely be in the mixer come Sunday.

Outside of the English contingent there's of course the golfing heavy weights who will be teeing off on Thursday, with the top ten priced at:

·          Justin Rose                         14/1

·          Adam Scott                         16/1

·          Rory Mcillroy                      16/1

·          Henrik Stenson                 16/1

·          Tiger Woods                       22/1

·          Martin Keymar                 22/1

·          Phil Mickelson                   25/1

·          Sergio Garcia                      25/1

·          Graeme McDowell          28/1

·          Dustin Johnson                 33/1

Plus on all outright bets placed ahead of The Open Championship, Paddy Power will pay out on the top 7 places.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said "The so called- golden generation of golfers have been about as successful as England's recent current crop of footballers, so here's hoping they'll end this jinx at Royal Liverpool."
