February 4, 2014

Big hearted members of Redditch Golf Club raised over £17,000 for the Help Heroes charity during the club''s centenary year in 2013.

The final figure raised for the year was £17,798 and this was presented to Help for Heroes Injured Army Bear who dropped by to say a big "Thank You!".

Centenary captain Tom Sheldon said the final figure was an outstanding tribute both to the club''s membership and also to the many companies who also made donations.

Fund raising events during the year included the Captain''s Charity Golf Day, including an auction of prizes, and competitions, tombolas and raffles throughout the year, including significant donations from the Ladies Section and RAGS - the Redditch Aged Golfers Section.

Nationally, golf clubs across the UK raised £237,220 for Help for Heroes during 2013.

Redditch Golf Club also took part in the Volvo National Golf Club Challenge, which supported Help for Heroes, represented by local dealer Johnson Redditch.

Outgoing centenary captain Tom Sheldon said he was very proud to be have been captain during the club''s 100 th year and to have raised so much for such a worthy cause.

"Help for Heroes is something that is close to all our hearts, and it is truly heartening to see how many people and businesses in the local community put their hands in their pockets to support us to such a great extent during the year," he said.
