Rockliffe Hall gets gold in golf 'Oscars’

March 25, 2014

Rockliffe Hall has been named as one of the best golf clubs in Europe at a recent awards ceremony.

The resort's golf course picked up the 59Club's Gold Flag award, the industry benchmark recognising the best in the sector, in the annual Service Excellence Awards.

The 59Club is Europe's leading golf-specific mystery shopper service and a PGA Official Supplier. The organisation is the industry standard for measuring and comparing customer service levels and analysing all key revenue streams for golf venues.

The awards, this year hosted by BBC sports presenter Dan Walker and held at The Belfry, recognise the achievements of the very best individuals, teams and venues within the golf industry with top venues competing in areas such as sales, service, operations, retail and management - as well as the presentation of the Gold and Silver Flag Award.

A range of categories of golf venues competed for top honours - from pay-and-play courses to international resorts such as Dubai Creek.

As well as the Gold Flag award, Rockliffe Hall was also a runner-up in the 'ultimate venue' and 'greenkeeper of the year' categories.

The 59Club awards' evening is regarded by many as the 'Oscars' of the golf service industry and are all objective and based on real data collected throughout the year. All award nominations and winners work within the 59club scheme to improve and maintain higher levels of customer service standards across their venue. Just like gaining 4 or 5 Star recognition, the awards allow venues to market themselves as a club delivering customer service excellence in a particular field.

Previous award winners include this year's host club The Belfry, 2010 Ryder Cup venue Celtic Manor Resort, Wentworth and Stoke Park.

Rockliffe Hall's golf course is home to the European Tour English Senior Open this year for the second year running and was strategically designed by top golf architect, Marc Westonborg from Hawtree Ltd. It is also home to a highly-regarded golf academy with coaching from respected PGA golf professionals and is a Cleveland Golf and Srixon Centre of Excellence providing an advanced custom-fitting service for players of all levels.

Rockliffe Hall's course manager, Davy Cuthbertson, said: "We are incredibly proud to have clinched this gold award as it really does mean that we are amongst the best in Europe- you only have to look at the past winners to see that. These awards reward truly outstanding performances within the golf industry and our team has worked extremely hard in our short, five-year history to put us on the golfing map. This is just the start of a really exciting year of golf here at Rockliffe Hall as the European Tour English Senior Open returns as well as a number of other high profile events that we have in the pipeline."
