McIlroy 20/1 for "Rory Slam"

August 20, 2014

Rory McIlroy continued his dominance of the world of golf as he won his third tournament in a row at the USPGA Championship in Valhalla.  In the process McIlroy becomes the first player in 6 years to win back-to-back major championships.  Bookmaker Paddy Power has odds of 20/1 that Rory will hold all 4 majors next year by winning the Masters and the US Open in 2015.

Only one person has held all for majors at one time, a guy called Tiger Woods.  As his 4 consecutive victories were not in a single calendar year it has now been known as the 'Tiger-Slam'.  Now, young McIlroy is half way to his winning his own 'Rory-Slam'.

With 4 majors to his name at just 25 years old, he looks in good position to challenge Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major titles.  He is odds of 4/1 to break The Golden Bear's feat.

The 25 year old is now odds of 2/1 to win more majors championships than Woods.  The 14 time major winner has looked out of sorts since returning from surgery.  With the Ryder Cup just over a month away, Tiger must depend on a captain's pick, Paddy Power make it 5/1 that he will get the nod from Captain Tom Watson.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: "Rory is in unstoppable form, looking like Tiger in his prime, you just have to wonder who was playing the field more Woods in his prime or McIlroy now?"
