Golfers at Royal Dornoch being smart

June 25, 2014

A new App launched this year enables greenkeepers to enter flagstick locations on their phones once the hole is cut. The information is then sent to the course office which allows pin sheets for golfers to be printed quicker and easier.

But as well as printed sheets, players also have the information sent directly to their phones by downloading a free App as part of MyPinPoint, believed to be the world's first direct-to-smartphone system providing exact hole location information.

Royal Dornoch Golf Club, voted the 6th best golf course in the world this year by Golf Digest, are among the early adopters of this innovative product developed by British firm PinPoint Golf. Open Championship venues St Andrews and Turnberry are also using the system.

MyPinPoint costs clubs £250 a year and its creators hope that it will eventually become as popular as scorecards,

Neil Hampton, general manager at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, said: "The system enables us to provide a far better service to our members and is already proving really popular.

"It's easy to use and enhances the information players receive which should help them be more accurate with club and shot selection."

Marcus Lovelock from PinPoint Golf said: "We are very proud to be working with Royal Dornoch Golf club, a wonderful club whose team always do everything they can to ensure that no stone is left unturned when it comes to enhancing the golfer's experience."
