Ryder Cup European betting odds

September 4, 2014

So it's Scotsman Stephen Gallacher and English duo Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood who have been handed the wildcards for the 2014 Ryder Cup.  Whilst the trio celebrate their selection the number crunchers at Paddy Power have been busy pricing up some specials for the eagerly awaited tournament on the 26th of September.

The European's will go in to the tournament as favourites, at odds of 8/13 to beat their American counterparts. While the Yanks without Woods and Dustin Johnson are the outsiders at 13/8 to dash down McGinley's men on their own turf.

Captain Mcginley picked form over experience on this one.  He chose Stephen Gallacher an impressive performer this season ahead of four time Ryder Cup player and former world number one Luke Donald, who has not lived up to his own high standards this year.

Scotland's very own 'Stevie G' will now play in front of his home fans at Gleneagles.  He is an 18/1 shot to show his local knowledge and be Europe's top performer .  On the other hand the pressure will be unprecedented and could be too much for him and he is 9/2 to score the least points for team Europe.

Paddy Power have priced up which European could prove to be the hero of the weekend by scoring the most points.  Leading the betting field is world number one Rory McIlroy at odds of 4/1 to be Europe's top scorer.   Closely following him are fellow world top 5 players Justin rose at 11/2 and Henrik Stenson at 6/1 .

Despite having to wait it out for a wildcard pick, England's Ian Poulter is 4 th favourite to be top of the European points list, he is 13/2 .

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: "McGinley proved he had a right pair of golf balls on this one, dropping a player of Donald's experience.  Let's hope the Scotsman doesn't freeze in front of his home fans."
