Odds stretched on Tiger Woods

March 24, 2014

Following the news of Tiger Woods suffering from a back injury, Paddy Power has been forced to lengthen the odds on the US golfer gaining a fifth Masters title. Tiger was originally priced at 5/1 at the start of the year with the bookmaker but has been gradually pushed out as a result of his poor play and injury, more recently from 8/1 yesterday to 10/1 today.

With Tiger withdrawing from next week's Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, unable to defend the title he has won eight times, the Irish bookmaker has opened a market on whether the golfer will play in the 2014 US Masters at all. The odds are at 2/1 that he will not play in the most famous tournament in golf, now just three weeks away.

However, fans of the golfer can remain optimistic as it is still odds on at 1/3 for Tiger to give the Masters a shot, a championship he made history at in 1997 as the youngest winner ever at age 21.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: "The odds are still on for Tiger to play in the Masters but given his on-going back trouble it is looking less likely he will win. McIlroy remains the favourite at 15/2 for an elusive victory at Augusta, with last year's champion Adam Scott priced at 14/1 to claim another green jacket."
