Tune Hotels helps Liverpool factory worker compete in British Open

July 18, 2014

Tune Hotels is proud to be part of the team making dreams come true for Liverpool factory worker, turned professional golfer, John Singleton. Today, Thursday 17 th July, Singleton will line up next to the world's top players as he participates in the 2014 British Open at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake.

Living just a few miles from the Hoylake club, Singleton is no stranger to golf having tried to make it as a professional nearly 10 years ago. Back in 2006 his contribution to the tournament was as a spectator on the side lines.

Following a change in circumstance Singleton took a job at a Birkenhead factory, but the calling of the great outdoors and his trusty golf clubs encouraged him to revisit the sport. This year he entered the regional qualifier for the Open, which saw him progress through the competition earning an Open berth. The tables have now turned seeing Singleton compete this year against the likes of Tiger Woods.

Singleton said "It means everything to me. You dream of playing The Open growing up, but you don't actually believe you are going to do it. And then to qualify at Hillside and to be playing at home, this all feels like the Olympics to me. Thursday will be some day. Friends and family all there. It will be one of the greatest days of my life."

Tune Hotels is delighted to be a co-sponsor of Team John Singleton.

Alongside this, 2014 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Tune Hotels. The group is expanding its UK portfolio and will be opening Tune Hotel Newcastle in October and Tune Hotel Canary Wharf in December.
