Rory McIlroy favourite for Wells Fargo

May 1, 2014

The Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte will see Rory McIlroy return to the competitive fare after a break at home in Northern Ireland last week. McIlroy, who won here in 2010, is the 7/1 favourite with Paddy Power having made four starts on the PGA Tour this year despite a disappointing tied-eight finish at the Masters.

Outright Betting

After McIlroy, who came very close to a seventh PGA Tour win at the Honda Classic at the beginning of March, are other big names Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson both priced up at 16/1 for outright winner followed by Justin Rose at 20/1 .

At 28/1 Rickie Fowler is worth consideration having won here in 2012 surviving a playoff against McIlroy and D.A. Points by stuffing a wedge shot four feet from the cup on the first extra hole.

Place Only - 5 places

Hunter Mahan, who has five career PGA Tour victories and got very close to a hole in one on the 12 th hole at the Masters, is 8/1 for a top five finish.

2009 US Open Winner Lucas Glover was the champion here in 2011 and is 25/1 with Paddy Power to finish in the top 5. Last year's winner Derek Ernst is unlikely to defend his title at 200/1 but is an option for a place 5 bet with the optimistic punter at 40/1.

Top GB & Ireland Player

Tournament favourite McIlroy is 5/4 to be the top Great Britain and Ireland player but for those who don't fancy backing the Northern Irishman, Englishmen Lee Westwood and Justin Rose are 11/4 and 7/2 respectively with Welshman Jamie Donaldson are 9/1.

Six place special - Paddy Power will be paying out on six places on all outright bets placed before the start of the Wells Fargo Championship
