Ballantine's launches new golf app

December 23, 2015

Ballantine's, the world's No 2 Scotch whisky, has launched the new and innovative Ballantine's Golf Club app that allows golf fans to experience the game in their own way, by turning their cities into golf courses.

Venues are mapped across their home town, representing holes on a course where members can play whilst enjoying a Ballantine's whisky. Users can discover new venues, track their activities, gain access to exclusive events and be rewarded with local experiences; this will be the first time that their golf will be recognised and celebrated by a like-minded community.

Launching initially in Shanghai, the free to download app will allow users to become members of the Ballantine's Golf Club offering exclusive opportunities and rewards at various locations across the city. By downloading the app and signing into partner venues of the Ballantine's Golf Club, users will be rewarded for their activity in the form of ‘Yards' which can be transformed into rewards at selected bars, golf simulators and driving ranges. These range from golf balls to golf bags, whisky tastings to event tickets.

Ballantine's Global Brand Director, Peter Moore, said: “ The Ballantine's Golf Club app has been designed to appeal to young urban golfers. The free app rewards people for the golf they play, let's them discover new ways of experiencing golf in their city and gives them access to exclusive Ballantine's rewards.”

The app has been created following a successful debut year for the Ballantine's Golf Club, the first online global Golf Club of its kind with an identity that reflects the modern golfer's lifestyle and aspirational outlook. Launched in 2014 and free to join, the Golf Club was inspired by Ballantine's ‘Stay True' positioning, which serves as an invitation to consumers to express themselves in a genuine and authentic way. The Club's inaugural Captain was Ian Poulter, who handed over the captaincy to Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley for the 2015/16 season.
