Callaway start 2016 in the winners circle

January 19, 2016

A blemish-free final round of 69, hitting every green in regulation on the East Course at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club in South Africa, saw 21-year-old Callaway Staff Professional, Haydn Porteous, claim his maiden European Tour victory.

Using a full bag of Callaway and Odyssey products, including a Great Big Bertha Driver, Apex Pro Irons and an Odyssey Works Versa #1 Wide Putter, Porteous' victory comes in just his 22nd European Tour event, making him the second youngest South African winner in European Tour history and securing him a debut appearance in The Open at Royal Troon in July.

Haydn's 18-under par win, and a cheque for €153,809, also earns the young South African a European Tour exemption until the end of the 2017 season and moves him inside the Top 250 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

"To make a birdie on the 18th was the best feeling in the world. I was just thinking 'no silly mistakes', go left side of the green and hope the wind drags it to the right. Then I hit probably the best 5-iron I've hit all week and it landed just short of pin high and about 15-20 feet away. I had a putt I could only dream of to win the Joburg Open," said a delighted Porteous.

Neil Howie, President and Managing Director of Callaway EMEA , said: " To win a maiden title and put together four back-to-back sub-70 tournament rounds (66,66,68,69), so soon in his career, highlights the potential of this young South African and gets the #TeamCallaway season off to a great start."
