Quinta do Lago retains title

January 25, 2016

Quinta do Lago is celebrating the start of 2016 with a memorable double after being named as the best golf resort in Portugal for the second year running.

Fresh from being named ‘Europe's Best Golf Venue' at the 2015 World Golf Awards, the famous luxury family destination was the first choice of readers of Today's Golfer magazine in its annual travel awards, while it also finished runner-up in the ‘Best Golf Course in Portugal' category.

The new accolades are further recognition for the €50m upgrade that Quinta do Lago has made to its sports, leisure and lifestyle facilities as part of a six-year investment program which has cemented its position among Europe's elite golf destinations   – including the redesign of its North Course by renowned American architect Beau Welling in close association with European Ryder Cup winning captain Paul McGinley.

As well as featuring three 18-hole championship courses, Europe's only Paul McGinley Golf Academy and the only TaylorMade Performance Center in Southern Europe, the resort is now home to ten exclusive bars and restaurants, including its highly-acclaimed new Bovino Steakhouse.

John Dwyer, chief executive at Quinta do Lago, said: “ It's always good to receive any award and for golfers to have voted the resort as their favourite in Portugal for the second year in a row is extra special, and is a great way to begin the new year.

“Quinta do Lago has made a substantial investment in all its facilities since 2009 to improve the all-round experience we offer to our members and guests, and accolades such as these are deserved recognition for the concerted effort that has been made to transform the resort into the continent's leading luxury golf venue.”

Excelling for more than four decades, Quinta do Lago has been reinvented to provide the most vibrant and unique luxury lifestyle experience to be found anywhere in Europe, offering something to suit every taste and interest while, at the same time, staying faithful to the resort's illustrious history.

And the investment is to continue in 2016 with the creation of a new state-of-the-art sports centre, with the facility offering the very best amenities for sport lovers, with more than 25 activities available, as well as a cutting-edge, modern clubhouse.

The official winter training base for England Golf's elite squads, Quinta do Lago is perfect for a relaxing family holiday in exquisite surroundings and offers the very best in award-winning sports and leisure facilities.

The resort's three championship courses – Quinta do Lago North and South and Laranjal – are matched by outstanding practice facilities, with the state-of-the-art TaylorMade Performance Center and a recently-opened short-game area, in addition to the resort's Paul McGinley Golf Academy.

Set among 2,000 acres of the picturesque Ria Formosa Natural Park, there's plenty to keep guests occupied away from the fairways, with events, tennis, cycling and watersports just some of the extensive leisure activities available, plus 10 exclusive bars and restaurants.
