Bruce Fleisher, the world's
number one Senior golfer, won the AIB Irish Seniors Open at Tulfarris GC in County
Wicklow, with a final round 72.
Fleisher finished with a
seven-under par 54-hole-aggregate of 209, three shots ahead of George Burns and
Bob Shearer.
"My father, Hubert,
is very sick back in Florida," he said. "He's dying with pancreatic
cancer and, to be honest, if he had expired earlier in the week, I would have
turned around and gone straight back home."
"It was a struggle
out there," he said after collecting the £27,264 first prize.
"Both Bob and George
made a pretty good charge at me but I knew that if I could keep my head I could
hold them off. It's a great feeling to win over here. I've had a great time here
and this makes the week even more special."
