Arthritic golfer Nigel Lane
has won his battle to use a motorised cart on the Australasian PGA Tour.
PGA Tour Australasia Operations director Trevor Herden said today the Brisbane
golfer could play the remaining two tournaments, the Canon Challenge and season-closing
Tour Champions, provided he pre-qualified for both events.
Lane, who suffers from
arthritis in his feet making it painful to walk, applied to the Tour last week
for a special exemption to use a cart to help him play.
He had been prepared to
take his case to the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission had the
Tour knocked him back.
Herden said Lane's conditions
would be monitored regularly by the Tour's doctor, Jeff Steinweg, and reviewed
when his condition improved.
