The United States Supreme Court
willhear oral arguments on January 17th to determine if Casey Martin
can continue to ride a golf cart in PGA Tour events.
Martin was born with a circulatory disorder in his right leg that
makeswalkingpainful. He successfully sued the PGA Tour in 1997 for
the right to use agolfcartinTourevents.Thecourtgranted
Martin'srequestunder the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Tour
appealed, stating that the cart gave him an unfairadvantagebecause
overcoming fatigue was a natural part of the sport.
Martin finished 179th on the money list this year, hisfirston
thePGATour.Thetop-125retaintheir playing card for the next
season. HeiscurrentlycompetinginthePGATourqualifying
tournament to regain his playing card.
