Greg Norman has spoken up
for John Daly as the controversial American makes his latest attempt to rebuild
his golf career.
Norman, who issued a personal
invitation to Daly to come and play at The Greg Norman invitational at The Lakes,
said: "I have a lot of time for John and feel for him in lots of ways.
"I admire him for what
he has gone through. It's got to be an extremely difficult situation - one that
I've never been through.
"Any time I can help
I will. He has a great heart and he will be there for you. I think that is special
in the guy.
"He does have the ability
to play, otherwise he would not have won the Majors he has (Daly was also the
1991 United States PGA champion). But he gets ahead of himself and seems to get
into a funky mood or whatever when he shoots in the eighties.
"It's just a process
of slowing down, analysing what it is and what he can do to improve. He wants
to play golf and he is good for the game.
"I'm sure he will pull
himself out of it and if he does it will be great. If he doesn't it will be sad."
Daly has had only four top
10 finishes on the US Tour since St Andrews in 1995.
