John Daly, known through the golfing world as "Wild Thing",
following a string of well publicised incidents and without a major
endorsement deal since separating from Callaway Golf, is set to
sign a new deal with Hippo, a British equipment and apparel company
perhaps best known for its relationship with Ian Woosnam. However,
one matter that requires some house cleaning with the former PGA
and British Open Champion is his outstanding debt to Callaway.
Daly accepted financial assistance from his previous sponsor to
help overcome some highly documented personal matters. Sources say
Hippo is negotiating with Callaway on the outstanding amount, which
is said to be in the seven-figure range. In the spirit of moving
on and allowing Daly another fresh start, Callaway is expected to
accept settlement in the area of 40 cents on the dollar.
