Calls for Mark James to resign his Ryder Cup position continue to rise. Allsport.
Nick Faldo said he has support from other European players who want Mark James to resign as vice captain of the European Ryder Cup team and chairman of the European Tour tournament committee.
"I have had players call me and that has not happened before -- they are outraged,'' said Faldo, who had a good luck letter he sent to last year's team tossed into the trash by James, the '99 Ryder Cup captain.
James did not pick Faldo as a wild card on the '99 European team.
Faldo did not make it clear whether he would prefer James resign as vice captain of the 2001 Ryder Cup team or chairman of the European Tour's tournament committee -- or both.
Faldo said James would hold a meeting next week of the tournament committee. Faldo is not on the committee, but Frenchman Jean van de Velde is. And Van de Velde supports Faldo.
"I don't see how he (James) can represent us,'' Faldo said. "I think he has got to go.''
He said he did not expect to attend the meeting but might respond in writing.
"I may write to let my feelings be known,'' Faldo said. "He has broken confidence and lost trust. I have spoken to somebody who feels the same way.''
European Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance, another tournament committee member, said: "I have not known an agenda in advance, but if this is brought up we will discuss it and if there is a certain view among players then that will have to be looked at.''
Torrance appointed James his vice captain and has supported him.
