James and Faldo agree to differ

Nick Faldo and last year's European Ryder Cup captain Mark James agreed to put their differences behind them on Thursday.

The pair, who had a much-publicised spat over James's book about the 1999 Ryder Cup, agreed to meet at the Lancome Trophy after their opening rounds.

Faldo was angry after James said in the book that his fellow Briton had undermined Europe's Ryder Cup bid.

James, playing in the same tournament as Faldo for the first time since he resigned as joint vice-captain of the 2001 Cup team last month, said: "We had a decent discussion and we both decided that there are two sides to each argument.

"We both decided that we wanted to move on from here and both agreed that enough has been said.

"We've cleared the air and think it's the end of the matter."

Faldo added: "Whatever he said, the feeling's mutual. We've discussed it and that's it over and done with."
