Pierre Fulke earns "Shot of the Year"

Pierre Fulke’s 5-wood second shot to the 16th hole in the final round of the Volvo Masters last month has been judged the European Tour's Canon Shot of the Year, tour officials have announced.

Fulke's 215-yard shot stopped 25 feet from the flagstick on the 517-yard par 5, and he holed the putt for an eagle. That sequence of events effectively sealed his second victory of the season. The 29-year-old from Sweden later called it the best shot he'd ever hit.

Previous shots of the year include Nick Faldo’s wedge in the Ryder Cup at Oak Hill in 1995; Colin Montgomerie’s driver off the fairway at the 72nd hole in the Dubai Desert Classic in 1996; Montgomerie’s 18th hole tee shot in the 1997 Ryder Cup; Miguel Angel Jiménez’s chip-in at the Trophée Lancôme in 1998 and Sergio Garcia’s 6-iron shot in the 1999 PGA Championship.
