Swedish caddie Fanny Sunesson
was not among the ranks of the unemployed for very long following her firing
by Spain's Sergio Garcia on Friday night at the Players Championship.
American golfer Fred Funk
was swift to enlist her as his new caddie and she will be on his bag at next
week's Masters at Augusta, Georgia.
Sunesson, who was staying
with Funk and his wife Sharon at their Ponte Vedra home during the Players Championship,
was dismissed by Garcia after only eight tournaments together, beginning with
the Williams World Challenge in Phoenix in January.
Funk said: "Fanny had a
meeting with Sergio on Friday evening and was very hurt by the decision. I don't
think there were any flare-ups, it was a clash of personalties. She didn't feel
appreciated and was becoming irritable. They didn't gell.
"It was nothing to
do with Fanny's ability. They have just not been gelling as a team.
"Fanny was thinking
it was time for her to move on, but they had a meeting on Friday night. She came
back down and hurt. I don't think she felt appreciated.
"She is the hardest-working
caddie out here and I always said I would take the best caddie available, so
now she's mine.
"There were no flare-ups
between the two but she was a little irritated by things."
"Now she is all mine and
I am delighted. There is no harder working caddie on tour and she is a very good
friend of my wife and I."
Sunesson split with Britain's
Nick Faldo last November after she had helped him to four of his six majors in
their 10-year partnership.
