The PGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe
Open is changing its name to the Greens.com Open at Reno-Tahoe as part of a $3.75
million deal.
Greens.com is the new name
of the Arizona-based company that until today was known as Golfgateway.
The company, which books
tee times via the Internet, agreed to a three-year deal, paying $1 million this
year, $1.25 million next year and $1.5 million in 2002. After that, it will have
an option for a two-year renewal, tournament officials said Tuesday.
The August tournament at
Montreux Golf and Country Club at the base of Mount Rose did not have a title
sponsor last year.
The tournament began in
1999 to help build the region's golf reputation by linking it to the PGA Tour.
