Golf Foundation benefit from Harrington's error

Padraig Harrington's disqualification from the Benson and Hedges International Open has benefitted the Golf Foundation

Wilson, who sponsor Harrington, have decided to donate £2,700, the amount equates to £50 for each of the 54 holes Harrington played before his error in not signing his first-round scorecard came to light.

A Wilson spokesman said: "We could all sympathise with Padraig's initial sense of devastation over the error. But it was the manner in which he responded to the disappointment that not only made him many friends but projected the game of golf in a way that will remain a positive influence for years to come.

"That's why we have decided to donate this money to the Golf Foundation, in the hope that Padraig's behaviour will be seen in a positive light and he will be regarded as a role model for our future golfing stars."
