RebeccaHudson, the reigning British match and strokeplay champion along with the Canon European Under 21 Golf Championships, has won the 2000 Daily Telegraph Women's Golfer of the Year award. The 21-year-old Yorkshire golfer will receive her trophy at a luncheon in London on Dec 13.
Hudson, a member at Wheatley, had an outstanding season. In March, she won the Spanish Ladies' Open at Pals while, the following month, she defeated Emma Duggelby at the second extra hole to win the Scottish Open Strokeplay Championship at Royal Troon.
She then lost to Duggelby in the final of the English championship at Hunstanton before defeating her in the final of the British Championshipat Walton Heath.
Reverting to strokeplay, she won the English title at Silloth and the British at Royal County Down.
Hudson has been winning Daily Telegraph awards since 1994 when she bagged the newspaper's junior championship at San Lorenzo. She collected the Telegraph/Center Parcs title again in 1995 and 1997, two years in which she also won the Daily Telegraph's Joyce Wethered award for the young player making the best effort at combining top level golf with education.
