Neil Coles gains historic win

Neil Coles became the first golfer in history to win a professional event in six different decades when he won the Jersey Seniors Open at La Moye.

Coles, aged 65 years and 10 months, also shattered his own record as the oldest man ever to win on the European Seniors Tour.

"I am very proud of the fact that I've become the first professional to win in six different decades," Coles said. "I heard last year that Gary Player thought he was the only golfer who could achieve that feat so it's nice to prove him wrong."

“I have to admit that I was very patchy to start with today,” he added. “I bogied two of the first seven holes but a birdie at the long par-3 14th gave me some momentum and I played a lot better after that.”

Coles won his first professional event as a 22-year old at the 1956 Gor-Ray tournament and he has since gone on to win a total of 45 titles around the world, including 25 on the European Tour and 14 on the European Seniors Tour.
In addition to holding the record as the oldest man to win on the European Seniors Tour, he also holds the same record on the regular Tour, having won the 1982 Sanyo Open at the age of 48 years and 18 days.
