Henrik Stenson gained his first
professional victory when he stroked in a 15-foot birdie putt at the second extra
hole of aplay-off to win the Dexia-BIL Luxembourg Open.
The 24-year-old also needed a birdie at the 72nd hole to get into the play-off
with Denmark's Nils Rorbaek and Belgian teenage amateur Nicolas Colsaerts after
all three had finished on 18-under-par 270.
At the first extra hole, the 168-yard 10th, all three had pars, but when they
played it a second time, Colsaerts and Rorbaek missed their birdie chances but
Stenson made no mistake.
The top prize of almost £13,000 consolidates his position at the top of the
Challenge Tour order of merit and virtually means he is assured of his card for
the main tour next year.
