Rhodes wins PGA Senior Club Pro Championship

Jim Rhodes shows off the PGA Senior Club Professional's trophy
Midlands players dominated the closing stages of the PGA Senior Club Professional Championship at Coventry on Thursday (May 25), and for Jim Rhodes from South Staffs it was a chance to celebrate his first senior victory after four years of trying.

But he was taken to two extra holes by Iain Clark from Hagley, near Stourbridge, who actually outscored Rhodes in the final round, a level par 73 to Rhodes' 74.

But Rhodes looked overjoyed at winning after his opponent was bunkered at the second extra hole, the 18th, and failed to hole out from four feet.

"I felt OK early on but I started to panic at the 12th when I missed a fairway and dropped a shot", said Rhodes. "But I'm pleased at the way I finished, parring the last four holes. After throwing away this tournament the last two years I felt if I did it again I'd never win."

Jim had a wonderful chance to settle the contest on the 54th green, but his downhill putt of 15 feet for victory teetered on the brink of the hole-- and stayed above ground.

In his first year on the seniors' tour Nick Job was well in contention after an eagle 3 at the 10th but he slipped away after five bogeys on the inward half. Leading scores:
