Solheim Cup team decided at Chart Hills

The European team for the Solheim Cup will be finalised after the Chart Hills Classic, which starts today on the Kent course designed by Nick Faldo.

It is the last of the counting events before the match against the Americans at Loch Lomond, in October, with seven players qualifying automatically from the Order of Merit. Five of those have been settled, leaving captain Dale Reid to sweat on whether world No 2 Annika Sorenstam can hold on to her slot without need of one of five wild cards.

Those who will complete the 12-strong team will be announced on Sunday and the field includes high- profile hopefuls like Lotte Neumann, of Sweden, and Scotland's Kathryn Marshall.

Carin Koch, the Swede who has had a fine season in the United States, has withdrawn, leaving one to suspect that she has already been given the nod by Reid.

If Koch is in - she is 20th on the American money list - then so presumably is Scotland's Janice Moodie, who is ninth.

Laura Davies has comfortably secured her Solheim Cup place but has yet to win in Europe this season.
