PGA win the Three Tour Challenge

The PGA Tour team of Notah Begay III, Rocco Mediate, and Phil Mickelson have won the Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge today.The three players split $350,000 from thepecial stroke-playevent, which also featuredplayersfrom the LPGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour.

Senior Tour players Tom Kite, Tom Watson and HaleIrwinsplit $300,000,whileLPGAmembersKarrieWebb,Dottie Pepper and Juli Inkster divided $150,000.

The PGA Tour players have won this event in three of the last five years and have finished either first or second the last nine years.

The highlight of the day came fromKite, who aced thepar-3, 164-yardeighth hole at the Reflection Bay Golf Club. Kite used a 6-iron and split $500,000 with Watson andIrwinforthehole-in-one. Another $500,000 went to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

The event had all three toursplayingforvaryingamountsof moneyoverthreesix-holestroke-play matches. The first six holes were worth a total of $100,000 with the winning team taking the entire amount.Thefirstsix-hole match ended in a tie between the Seniors and the LPGA with the $100,000 carrying over to round two,whichwas worth a total of $200,000.

The Seniors won the second six-hole match over theLPGA,minus-fivetominus-fourtoclaim$300,000.TheLPGA and PGA Tour each won $50,000 for the second six holes.

The final six holes were worth a total of $500,000 with$300,000 goingtothe winners and $100,000 going to each the second and third place finishers. The PGA Tour easily won the final six-holematch witha scoreofminus-six.The Seniors, who had won this event in the last two years, were second at 2-under-par with the LPGA finishing third.

The made-for-TV event, sponsored by Wendy's, is scheduledtobe broadcastDecember23-24onABC.

TheDaveThomas Foundation for Adoption works to raise awareness for the more than100,000children waitingforadoptionandtoeducate prospective parents about the adoption process. Thomaswasadoptedatbirthandhasbecomea nationaladvocatefor the cause. Since its inception, this event has raised nearly $5.38 million for adoption.Lastyear'seventraised $1,200,000.
